Dance- Classical
Grade level:
IV to Intermediate/A’ levels

Rules:

  1. Each School may send up to THREE teams.
  2. Each team will be represented by ONE (solo) or TWO (duet) Participants.
  3. Schools may send a maximum of TWO teams in each skill level.
  4. Teams may register in any one of the three skill levels:
  • Beginners- students with less than 3 years of training
  • Intermediate- students with more than 3 years but less than 6 years of training
  • Advanced- students with more than 6 years of training
  1. The selected dance piece should be appropriate to the skill level of the participant.
  2. Students may only perform dance pieces from any of the three main classical dance styles:

 

  • Bharatnātyam
  • Kathak
  • Odissi
  1. Participants from Pakistan MUST only be students of one of the following classical dance teachers:
  • Amjad Ansari
  • Amy Minwala
  • Beena Jawad
  • Fussieh ur Rehman
  • Indu Mittha
  • Munawer Chao
  • Nahid Siddiqui
  • Nighat Chaudhry
  • Sadia Khan
  • Sheema Kirmani
  • Tehrima Mittha
  1. Participants’ registration must be endorsed by both the Classical Dance teacher and the Registered School by filling the additional Classical Dance Registration From. This form must be sent via post/delivery to the ISEO Office by 30th December prior to the Olympiad.
  2. There will only be ONE round of performances.
  3. The performance order will be determined by a random draw.
  4. The minimum performance time will be 4 minutes and the maximum will be 15 minutes inclusive of introductory announcements.
  5. When the buzzer is sounded the participants will be required to immediately stop.
  6. Participants must make a short introductory announcement mentioning their team code; school; class/ grade; participants’ name(s); dance teacher and number of years of training as well as chosen dance style; name of the dance piece/item and the tāla and rāga it is set to.
  7. Traditional classical music appropriate to the chosen dance style must be used. Popular & film music will not be permitted.
  8. CD playing facilities will be available. Provision for live musicians will not be possible.
  9. Participants must wear the traditional make-up, costume and ghungroos appropriate to the dance style.
  10. The ISEO committee reserves the right to withdraw any entry it deems inappropriate or unsuitable.
  11. Audio/Video recording at the ISEO venues is not allowed unless special permission has been requested for and given in writing in advance from the ISEO Committee.
  12. Attendance will be restricted to faculty members and enrolled students of participating schools.
