Event Rules

  1. Each School may send up to THREE teams.
  2. Schools may send only ONE team in each grade level.
  3. Each team will be represented by ONE Participant.
    • Participants should register at the Front Desk of the ISEO venue at 9:00 a.m. sharp on the day of the event.
    • Attendance will be restricted to faculty members and enrolled students of all participating schools.

Note: Entries will be limited to 32 participants in each skill level. Registration for this Event will be on a “first come” basis.

This event is being organized in collaboration with Pakistan Chess Players Association

The tournament shall be governed by the Fide Laws of Chess as interpreted by PCPA

  1. A ‘Rapid play’ game is one where all the moves must be made within a fixed time. The player whose flag fall first will lose the game if the game is not decided earlier. In this tournament allotted time is 25 minutes.
  2. Algebraic notation system is used to record the game, however in this event it is not mandatory for players to record the moves.
  3. Once each player has completed three (3) moves, no claim can be made regarding incorrect peace placement, orientation of the chess board or clock setting. In case of reverse King and Queen placement castling with this King is not allowed.
  4. An illegal move completed once the opponent clock has been started. The opponent is than entitled to claim that the player completed an illegal move provided the claimant has not made his move. The arbiter shall decide what plenty should be impose to the player who committed illegal move.
  5. Each move must be made with one hand only and Chess clock also be pressed with the same hand.
  6. ‘Flag fall’ means the expiration of the allotted time for a player.
  7. The player should loss the game if he/she arrived at the chess board late and his/her allotted time at the chess clock is over.
  8. If during a game it is found that the chessboard has been placed with dark color on right corner of each player the game continues but the position reached must be transferred to a correctly placed chessboard If a game has begun with colours reversed then it shall continue.
  9.  If during a game it is found that the initial position of the pieces was incorrect, the game shall be cancelled and a new game played.
  10.  If a game has begun with colours reversed then it shall continue.
  11. The player having the move is not allowed to leave the playing area without permission of the arbiter.

The claim on time:

  1. The flag is considered to have fallen when a player has made a valid claim to that effect. The arbiter shall refrain from signaling a flag fall, but he may do so if both flags have fallen.
  2. To claim a win on time the claimant must stop both clock and notified the arbiter. The claimant must have time on his chess clock after the clock have been stopped.
  3. If both flags have been fallen the game is declared has drawn.

Draw claim on same position third time:

The game is drawn upon a correct claim by the player having the move, when the same position, for at least the third time:
a. Is about to appear, if he first writes his move on his score sheet and declares to the arbiter his intention to make this move, or
b. Has just appeared, and the player claiming the draw has the move.
Fifty moves rule:The game is drawn, upon a correct claim by the player having the move:The last50 moves having been made by each player without the movement of any pawn and without any capture.Other draws claim:A player make claim draw on the basis:

  1. That his opponent cannot wins by normal means and / or
  2. That his opponent has been making no effect to win by normal means.

Arbiter can declare the game as drawn or can deferred his decision for the time being and asked the player to carry on.

The arbiter can apply one or more of the following penalties:

  1. Warning
  2. Increasing the remaining time of the opponent
  3. Declaring the game to be lost
  4. Expulsion from the event.

The Arbiter may award either or both players additional time in the event of external disturbance of the game.

Touch Piece:

If the player having the move deliberately touches one of its own piece or one of his opponent’s piece then he should have move or capture, if it is legally possible.

Castling:

Castling is the only move simultaneously made by two chess pieces of the same color- King and rook. While castling with one hand always touch king first.

Pawn Promotion:

A pawn can be promoted to any piece , except the king when reaches to the last rank of the board. This exchange of piece is called promotion.

The “Enpassant”:

When the pawn moved over two squares by a player, having crossed the opponent capture range. In such an instance, the latter is entitled to capture the former, standing on the field over which the first pawn has leaped. The “en passant” capture can only be made in response to a move.

Other Misc. Rules:

  1. During the course of play teachers and parents are not allowed to talk a player or asked to provide any thing to the player such as water or juice etc. This act will be considered interfere in a game. If necessary, the arbiter may expel offenders from the playing area.
  2. Before entering the Playing Hall all players and spectators are requested to switch off their mobile phones
